About GoldDog

Why GoldDog?

I'm Jayne Brewster and GoldDog is named after the generations of Golden Retrievers who have been my 'studio assistants' through the years.

They are fun-loving, adaptable and reliable - characteristics that I like to think are reflected in my practice. (although I don't shed nearly as much mud and fur, on the office floor!)

I prefer the Golddog brand to my own name, for two reasons. Firstly it's nice to put some distance between me and the day job. Also, its not all about me. I'm blessed with wonderful associates, who really do make it a team effort.

Telling stories...

For as long as I can remember, I've loved storytelling.

Before I could write, I would draw my own comic strips, inspired by the myths, legends and tales from history that were my earliest inspiration.

It was probably inevitable that I should become an illustrator, although I tried hard to find a more sensible occupation, before giving in.

A life in illustration.

Working as an in-house illustrator for Rolls-Royce plc, the rich history of the company inspired me, and I produced images, for many years, for the company's Heritage Trust, alongside regular work, adopting many styles and media, from corporate to humorous.

I wanted to broaden my horizons, though, and founded GoldDog as a part time enterprise in 2004.

In 2008, GoldDog became my life and the business expanded to include a diverse range of clients, including Unilever, Boots plc and Cambridge University.

More recently, I decided to study for an integrated BA/Master's degree in Design in Illustration at the University of Derby.

In my second year, I won the Pro-Vice Chancellor Dean's Award for outstanding achievement and I graduated with an MDes. (Distinction) in 2025.
